| "Legend" |
| Legend is my own Rottweiler and the start of my life in the dog show world. I got Legend to be an obedience dog, and then decided to give conformation a try, just for "fun". It turned out to be much more work than fun as I found out that I had a LOT to learn about handling when I started with Legend in the puppy classes back in 2003! I continued to learn from others, take classes/seminars, and practice -- and finally, when he matured (and I learned what I was doing out there) he started winning points. He is shown above taking Winner's Dog at the Rio Hondo Kennel Club show on May 4, 2008 under Ms. Diane Anderson. Legend was always extremely successful in the UKC ring (a bit more of a level playing field, as only owner/handlers are allowed). We won 5 Best in Multi-Breed Shows in UKC, finished his championship and grand championship easily, and won group placements at the UKC Premier show in Michigan. However, AKC was a bit more of a struggle. Legend was finally "pointed out" in AKC in October 2008, and I then decided that I REALLY wanted to finish his championship before retiring him (well, retiring from the conformation ring...he's far from retiring from other activities!). I had Juan Griego and Perry Payson show Legend in the classes for his majors, but due to conflicts, I had to take him back in both times for breed to get Best of Winners for the crossover majors - while I am VERY grateful to both Juan and Perry for their help, I'm thrilled that I was able to be on the end of Legend's leash for the actual major wins...and ESPECIALLY for the moment of finishing his championship! What an incredible feeling and a day I'll never forget! Legend is now neutered (frozen semen is available though) and retired from the conformation ring...but he will still be shown at Rottweiler Specialties in the Veterans Class - and he's enjoying his "senior years" racking up the agility titles! |
