Legend finished out 2007 as the #1 Rottweiler for UKC...so we competed in the Top Ten competition on June 12th, but unfortunately, this year we did not win Best of Breed as we had the past two years. Actually, the weekend started out pretty poorly - we also didn't place in the Specialty, nor conformation on Friday...but on Saturday things turned around! Legend won his champion class for his fourth Grand Champion leg, took Best of Breed (earning 6 top ten points) and went on to take a GROUP 4!! He also qualified in Open B obedience with a score of 181 earning his first leg toward his UCDX. Because he won his class in conformation and qualified in obedience both on Saturday, he was honored on Sunday morning with the Total Dog Award for the second year in a row! Sunday we had a larger entry, and he still managed to win his champion class - which finished his Grand Championship!! - take Best of Breed and make the cut in a GORGEOUS Guardian Group. We also competed in obedience, but unfortunately did not qualify...he did well in the individual exercises and the honor down...but was pretty exhausted by the time we got to the long sit and he laid down with just a few seconds to go. I wasn't upset at all though - it was a long weekend and he was a great sport throughout the whole thing (including the 3.5 hour flight and 2.5 hour drive each way!!). Here are some photos from our weekend... |
As usual, Breed and Obedience ended up at the same time...so immediately after winning Best of Breed, we had to rush to obedience - thankfully, they were accommodating and allowed us to slip in quickly to get our turn before we had to return for the Guardian Group judging.
Here we are competing in the Guardian Group on Saturday - it was a large group with a lot of nice dogs - the judge made a first cut, then a second cut down to 5 dogs (which was scary...I really didn't want to be the only one walking out without a ribbon)! Legend did a great job, and we were awarded a Group 4!!!!!
These are photos from Sunday's breed judging - Legend won his Champion class - which now makes him a UKC Grand Champion! - went on to take Best of Breed (earning 8 Top Ten points!) - and made the cut in the Guardian Group under judge Diana Allen!
And this is what Legend did back in the hotel room each evening -- and all day Tuesday at home!!!
It's amazing how nicely he'll free stack when he spots a squirrel in the distance!! (the squirrel is that tiny white dot in the grass in the photo below)
